Dorothy Malone Biography: Actress. (b. Jan. 30, 1925, Chicago, as Dorothy Eloise Maloney.) This former child model got her "big break" when she was signed to an RKO contract at 18, after being spotted in a college play by a talent scout. Initially billed under her real name, she changed her cognomen to Malone when she went to Warners in 1945. At that studio she essayed many supporting roles (including a well-remembered small one as a bookstore clerk questioned by Humphrey Bogart in 1946's The Big Sleep) and worked her way up to ingenue status.
